Greetings Families and Staff,
This is Dr. Paul Stanton, and I am grateful to serve as the Superintendent of the Washington Elementary School District (国产探花). As we reflect on this past year, it had many challenges. However, we overcame those challenges and will continue to do so with each other. Education is really all about relationships, and I am thankful you are all a part of the 国产探花Family. I hope you take some time this summer to rest, relax and rejuvenate as we prepare to welcome students back for the 2023-2024 school year on Monday, August 7th.
In this update, I will share a few special highlights of our students, staff and community, along with information about our free summer meal program and 国产探花e-news survey.
Recognition Corner
国产探花Celebrates Class of 2023
Congratulations to the 国产探花Class of 2023! Our eighth-grade students from Abraham Lincoln, Arroyo, Cholla, Desert Foothills, Maryland, Mountain Sky, Mountain View, New Beginnings Academy, Online Learning Academy, Orangewood, Palo Verde, Royal Palm, Sunnyslope and Sweetwater were celebrated with balloons, flowers and cheers as they promoted to high school! EL Students Recognized at Awards Ceremony
Congratulations to our fourteen students in the 国产探花English Language Learner Program who were recognized for their outstanding growth and academic achievements at a special awards ceremony last week. All of the students speak a home language other than English and over the course of the school year, they have grown significantly not only in their English acquisition, but their academics overall. Each student was nominated by their teachers for this special recognition and were presented with a certificate and a gift in front of their families and teachers. The awards were presented by 国产探花EL Coordinator Jessica Stevens and 国产探花EL Instructional Specialist Ashley Parker. 国产探花Governing Board Vice President Jenni Abbott-Bayardi and 国产探花Governing Board Member Kyle Clayton, as well as District leadership were also in attendance.
The honorees represented six languages including Arabic, Burmese, Dari, Pashto, Russian and Spanish. We are so proud of our diverse 国产探花Family and applaud our students for their achievements!
Congratulations, May 2023 SUPER Kids and SUPER Staff!
The final SUPER Kids and SUPER Staff recognition of the 2022-2023 school year was held last week. Congratulations to the deserving students and staff members from Desert View Elementary School, Mountain View School and Sunnyslope Elementary School! I had the honor of surprising these incredible students and staff members to thank them for their contributions and achievements. SUPER Kids received a certificate and a free pizza from Peter Piper Pizza, while SUPER Staff earned a certificate and a Starbucks gift. 国产探花Hosts Community and Family Engagement Event (CAFÉ)
It was a great evening of collaboration at the recent 国产探花Community and Family Engagement event (CAFÉ), which brought together local businesses, non-profit organizations, faith-based groups, parents and community leaders to begin conversations about working together to improve not just schools, but entire communities.
In collaboration with School Connect, the event included schools in the Desert Foothills Region including Abraham Lincoln Traditional School, Acacia Elementary School, Chaparral Elementary School, Desert Foothills Junior High School, Ironwood Elementary School, Sunburst Elementary School and Sweetwater School. The evening began with a welcome from 国产探花Governing Board President Nikkie Gomez-Whaley. School Connect Founder and CEO Tracey Beal introduced the CAFÉ model, and Sweetwater Principal Susie Smith provided an overview of the night after a beautiful performance by the Sweetwater Choir. Acacia Principal Christine Hollingsworth shared the story of how the relationship with CORE developed and blossomed over time, and Pure Heart Church School Community Leader Deb Lupnacca facilitated the table discussions. The event reinforced current relationships and ignited many new ones. We are thankful for all who attended and participated!

国产探花Offers Free Summer Meals for Children
Once again, the 国产探花is proud to participate in the Summer Food Service Program for Children for 2023! Free breakfast and lunch are available to all children 18 years of age and under at multiple 国产探花locations. Children do not need to be enrolled in a 国产探花school to participate in the program. Children must eat meals on site. Please note that there will be no meal service on Monday, May 29th, in observance of Memorial Day and Tuesday, July 4th, in observance of Independence Day. Estudiantes de ‘EL’ (Idioma Inglés) Reconocidos en Ceremonia de Premiación
Felicitaciones para nuestros catorce estudiantes en el Programa de Aprendices del Idioma Inglés del 国产探花que fueron reconocidos por su crecimiento sobresaliente y logros académicos en una ceremonia especial de premiación la semana pasada. Todos los estudiantes hablan un idioma en casa que no es inglés y, en el transcurso del año escolar, han crecido significativamente no solo en su adquisición del inglés, sino también en sus estudios académicos en general. Cada estudiante fue nominado por sus maestros para este reconocimiento especial y se les entregó un certificado y un regalo frente a sus familias y maestros. 国产探花Organiza un Evento de Participación Familiar y Comunitaria (CAFÉ por sus siglas en inglés)
Fue una gran noche de colaboración en el evento reciente de Participación Familiar y Comunitaria (CAFÉ) de 国产探花, que reunió a empresas locales, organizaciones sin fines de lucro, grupos religiosos, padres y líderes comunitarios para comenzar conversaciones sobre trabajar juntos para mejorar no solo escuelas, sino comunidades enteras.
En colaboración con ‘School Connect’, el evento incluyó escuelas en la región de Desert Foothills, incluida las Escuelas Abraham Lincoln, Acacia, Chaparral, Desert Foothills, Ironwood, Sunburst y Sweetwater. 国产探花Ofrece Comidas Gratuitas durante el Verano para Niños
¡Una vez más, el 国产探花se enorgullece de participar en el Programa de Servicio de Alimentos de Verano para Niños para 2023! El desayuno y el almuerzo gratuitos están disponibles para todos los niños menores de 18 años en varias ubicaciones de 国产探花. Los niños no necesitan estar inscritos en una escuela del 国产探花para participar en el programa. Los niños deben comer en el lugar.
