Greetings Families and Staff,

Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your spring break recharging and spending time with your loved ones. We are officially in the fourth and final quarter of the 2022-2023 school year. I am grateful for your continued support as we head into these final important months, and look forward to closing out another great school year as one 国产探花Family.

In this update, I am proud to recognize some recent achievements of our schools, students and staff members. I will also share about a couple of important District updates.

Sweetwater School Earns Lighthouse Recertification

Congratulations to Sweetwater School for earning its Lighthouse Recertification through the Leader in Me program! The Lighthouse Certification “is a highly-regarded standard set by FranklinCovey that is attainable by every Leader in Me school. The certification is evidence that school has produced outstanding results in school and student outcomes, by implementing the process with fidelity and excellence.” To earn recertification, Sweetwater completed a virtual self-assessment, describing and celebrating its growth and accomplishments since its original Lighthouse designation. Sweetwater Principal Susie Smith expressed the importance of earning the Lighthouse Recertification and the impact it has on her school. "Sweetwater is incredibly proud to be commended on the Leadership, Culture, and Academics through the Leader In Me Lighthouse Recertification," Smith said. "Leader In Me supports inclusive practices for all students regardless of physical, emotional or intellectual abilities. At the center of Leader In Me are five paradigms that include Everyone can be a leader, Everyone has genius, Change starts with me, Empower students to lead their own learning, and Educators and Families partner to develop the whole person. These paradigms are embedded in the Sweetwater Way as is evident during our quarterly Leadership Assemblies where students are celebrated and awarded for their academics and leadership as we continue to create leaders of today and tomorrow. Be a Leader Today, the Sweetwater Way!"

Congratulations, March 2023 SUPER Kids and Staff!

It is always an honor to celebrate our SUPER Kids and SUPER Staff awardees. Earlier this week, I surprised honorees from Alta Vista Elementary School, Richard E. Miller Elementary School, Royal Palm Middle School and Washington Elementary School to recognize them for their achievements and contributions to the 国产探花. SUPER Kids received a certificate and a free pizza from Peter Piper Pizza, while SUPER Staff earned a certificate and a Starbucks gift card. Congratulations to all of our March 2023 awardees! Art Students Recognized by 国产探花Governing Board

During its February 23rd, 2023 meeting, the 国产探花Governing Board recognized another group of talented art students. These students had the honor of having their artwork displayed in the 国产探花Governing Board Room. Congratulations to student artists from John Jacobs Elementary School, Lookout Mountain Elementary School, Moon Mountain Elementary School and Shaw Butte Elementary School! These students received special certificates in honor of their skills and talent. Special thank you to the students’ art teachers for their support and guidance. The 国产探花Family is very proud of our students and teachers for their commitment to arts education.

Important District Updates

Prepare Students for Spring State Assessments

This week, schools began administering state assessments as all fifth and eighth graders took the AzSci test (science). Starting April 3rd, all third through eighth grade students will take the Arizona’s Academic Standards Assessment (AASA) Writing, English Language Arts (ELA) and Math tests. The testing window closes April 28th. Please be sure to check with your child’s school for specific testing dates and times. Attendance during this time is extremely important. Please make every effort to be sure your child arrives on time each day and try not to schedule any outside appointments during the school day.

Below are some tips and suggestions to help set your child up for success during testing season.

• Get a good night’s sleep (7-9 hours) the night before the exam. Your child’s ability to think clearly and remain calm during testing improve with sleep.
• Give your child a nutritious and filling breakfast the day of the test. This will give him or her energy and will help them focus on the test. Avoid high sugar cereal, which can make the student hyperactive and/or unfocused.
• Gather all of the school materials (for example, earbuds) and clothes your child is going to wear the night before so there is no rushing on the morning of test day.
• Set a backup alarm to avoid the possibility of oversleeping.
• Play calming or familiar music to relax your child at home or on the way to school if your child gets anxious about the test.
• Make sure your child is on time (if not early) on the day of testing.

国产探花Announces New Salary Increases and One-Time Retention Stipends for 2023-2024 School Year

The 国产探花has great news to share! The Governing Board has approved a three percent salary increase for all employees, as well as two, separate one-time retention stipends for every employee. Additionally, they approved an increase in the starting teacher salary to $51,610, which includes performance pay and completion of the 国产探花’s teacher mentorship program, BEGIN. Other positions also received in an increase in salary to help the 国产探花remain competitive including occupational/physical therapists, speech pathologists, psychologists and social workers.

Escuela Sweetwater Gana la Recertificación ‘Lighthouse’

¡Felicitaciones a la Escuela Sweetwater por ganarse su Recertificación ‘Lighthouse’ por medio del programa ‘Leader in Me’ (Líder en Mí)! La Certificación ‘Lighthouse’ “es una norma de gran prestigio establecida por FranklinCovey que puede ser obtenida por cada escuela ‘Leader in Me’. La certificación es evidencia de que la escuela ha producido resultados espectaculares en los resultados escolares y estudiantiles, al implementar el proceso con fidelidad y excelencia.” Para ganarse la recertificación, Sweetwater completó una autoevaluación virtual, describiendo y celebrando su crecimiento y logros desde su designación original ‘Lighthouse’. Estudiantes de Arte Reconocidos por el Consejo Administrativo del 国产探花

Durante su reunión del 23 de febrero, 2023, el Consejo Administrativo del 国产探花dio reconocimiento a otro grupo de estudiantes talentosos de arte. Estos estudiantes tuvieron el honor de tener sus obras de arte exhibidas en la Sala del Consejo Administrativo del 国产探花. ¡Felicitaciones a los estudiantes de arte de las Escuelas John Jacobs, Lookout Mountain, Moon Mountain y Shaw Butte! Estos estudiantes recibieron certificados especiales en honor a sus habilidades y talento. Un agradecimiento especial a los maestros de arte de los estudiantes por su apoyo y guía. Actualizaciones Distritales Importantes

Preparen a los Estudiantes para las Evaluaciones Estatales en Primavera

Esta semana, las escuelas comenzaron a administrar las evaluaciones estatales ya que todos los estudiantes de quinto y octavo grado tomaron la evaluación AzSci (ciencias naturales). Comenzando el 3 de abril, todos los estudiantes de tercer a octavo grado tomarán la evaluación ‘Arizona’s Academic Standards Assessment’ (AASA por sus siglas en inglés) de Escritura, Lectura - Escritura (ELA por sus siglas en inglés) y Matemáticas. La ventana evaluativa cierra el 28 de abril. Favor de asegurarse de consultar con la escuela de sus hijos las fechas y horarios específicos de las evaluaciones. La asistencia durante este tiempo es extremadamente importante. Favor de hacer todo esfuerzo para asegurar que sus hijos lleguen puntualmente cada día y traten de no hacer citas fuera de la escuela durante el día escolar.

A continuación, encontrarán algunos consejos y sugerencias para ayudar a preparar a sus hijos a ser exitosos durante la temporada de evaluaciones.

• Duerman bien (7-9 horas) la noche antes de la evaluación. La habilidad de sus hijos para pensar claramente y mantenerse calmados durante evaluaciones mejora cuando se duerme bien.

• Asegúrense de que sus hijos sean puntuales (si es posible lleguen más temprano) el día de la evaluación.

国产探花Anuncia Aumento de Salarios y Estipendios de Retención ÚNICOS para el Año Escolar 2023-2024

¡国产探花tiene noticias excelentes que compartir! El Consejo Administrativo ha aprobado un aumento de sueldo de tres por ciento para todos los empleados, al igual que dos, estipendios de retención únicos separados para cada empleado. Además, aprobaron un aumento del salario de los maestros comenzando en $51,610, lo cual incluye pago por desempeño y haber completado el programa ‘BEGIN’ de mentoría para maestros del 国产探花. Otras posiciones también recibieron un aumento de sueldo para ayudar al 国产探花a mantenerse competitivo incluyendo terapeutas ocupacionales/físicos, patólogos de habla, psicólogos y trabajadores sociales.
